The lesson uses pop culture and social media to engage young learners and improve their English skills. It starts with a casual discussion about their favourite platforms and influencers, followed by exploring popular slang and expressions from social media. Students then watch and discuss a short pop culture clip to analyse language use. They’ll create their own social media content in English, practice expressing opinions through debates on trending topics, and complete fun tasks with social media posts or comments in English. This approach makes learning fun , relatable, connected to their daily experiences.
As someone born and raised in Queens , New York , I know the power of staying connected to what excites and engages young minds. Starting with dance as child for fun, I learned discipline and focus through years of training alongside school. This journey led me to my dream job with a cruise line, where I discovered the value of communication across cultures. Working with coworkers from various countries showed me how breaking down language into simple, practical steps can help non-native speakers improve their English. This experience fuels my passion for tutoring children , as I aim to combine my love of teaching with an approach that’s both fun and effective, grounded in the global exchange of ideas and culture.
In the same way the dance allows me to express myself, I strive to help students express themselves confidently in English , using the tools and experiences they are already familiar with. Whether through social media or casual conversations, my goal is to make language learning a natural and enjoyable process, much like the way I continue to develop my art in dance and fitness.
